Save the Earth. Beat the Bomb.

  • UMass Amherst 650 N Pleasant St Amherst, MA (map)

XR Western Mass is co-sponsoring Save the Earth. Beat the Bomb. The event organizers write:

“There are twin threats to the existence of our species, and all species: nuclear weapons and the climate crisis. And there are twin solutions that all Americans can participate in: a Green New Deal and the 2017 U.N. Nuclear Ban Treaty.”

So say leaders of a multi-organization convergence scheduled for September 26th at UMass Amherst. How do these problems -- and their solutions – feed into one another? What are local youth and long-time activists doing about them? What are the most effective actions to get involved in to make a meaningful difference?

All are welcome to learn their role in our fight to save the earth and beat the bomb. Speakers include members of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning International Campaign for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons, Northampton Mayor David Narkewicz, and leaders of many local youth, climate, and peace organizations.

The event will be held Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the 3rd Floor Integrative Learning Center, in the Communications Hub, University of Massachusetts, Amherst. There will be free pizza, with vegan options available.

The Resistance Center for Peace and Justice, NuclearBan.US, the Nuclear and Carbon Free Future Coalition and the Treaty Awareness Campaign are organizing the program. Sponsors include the UMass departments of Resistance Studies, Anthropology, and Communications. Local participating organizations include Climate Action Now, Extinction Rebellion, Climate Strike, Sunrise Movement, Back from the Brink, UMass Divest, Smith Divest, and other campus organizations.
